The Greensboro Science Center, formerly known as the Natural Science Center of Greensboro (and originally known as the Greensboro Junior Museum), is a science museum and zoological park in Greensboro, North Carolina, United States. It was founded in 1957 as a science museum and zoological park. It is situated in the city of Greensboro in the state of North Carolina, United States.
By 2007, the Greensboro Science Center (GSC) was attracting approximately 200,000 visitors per year, and attendance has steadily increased to 434,718 visitors as of 2017.
Several years after opening, the facility received accreditation from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA). This enables guests to take advantage of the reciprocity program offered by the AZA. When they have a membership with a fellow AZA organization, they are eligible for discounts on their admission to the Greensboro Science Center admission.
During a $20 million renovation, the GSC opened the Extreme Weather Gallery, sponsored by Time Warner Cable, in May 2011 and the HealthQuest exhibit, sponsored by the American Cancer Society, in June 2011. The HealthQuest exhibit, on the other hand, is no longer available for public viewing at this time.
Skywild, a treetop adventure park at the Greensboro Science Center, opened its doors on May 2, 2015, to the public.
Revolution Ridge, the newest addition to the Greensboro Science Center, will be open to the public on June 4, 2021, according to the science center. It is the most significant expansion in the Center’s history.
Among the animals that can be found at the Animal Discovery Zoological Park are: red pandas, tigers, white-nosed coatis, meerkats, black howler monkeys, and Nile crocodiles, among other species. Its purpose is to demonstrate the Science of Survivability.
Included among the zoo’s attractions are the Friendly Farm, the Kavanagh Exploration House, Revolution Ridge, and the Davis Kelly Fountain of Youth and Discovery, among others.
Prehistoric Passages: Realm of Dragons, SciPlay Bay, Time Warner Cable’s Extreme Weather Gallery, and touch labs with live snakes, lizards, and invertebrates are just a few of the attractions at the Museum of Natural History.
This full-dome theater allows visitors to see anything from the stars to coral reefs in 2D and 3D, as well as interact with the characters on the screen.
There are a variety of creatures at the Wiseman Aquarium, such as tiger sharks, African penguin and otter, fishing cat and moon jellies. The Wiseman Aquarium is located on the campus of the University of Florida.
Winter Wonderlights is Greensboro’s newest holiday attraction, which contains a walking holiday-themed light display that has been in operation since 2020 and is open year-round.
